ECONOMIC PRINCIPLE: All choices have an opportunity cost
THESIS (CONNECT ECONOMIC PRINCIPLE WITH YOUR ANSWER TO YOUR RESEARCH QUESTION): After researching, I have found that it is more beneficial for me to join a fraternity because the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Either choice has an opportunity cost because neither option is perfect
SYNTHESIS PARAGRAPH: Throughout my research, I found many interesting facts and learned a lot about fraternities and greek life. I have decided it is more beneficial for me to join a frat. When going back through my research, I found many recurring positives that many authors mentioned. In one of the articles I read, the author states that “one of the most obvious benefits of fraternities and sororities are the friendships, brother/sisterhoods and connections that come with being a member. The friends that you gain during your time at a fraternity or sorority are usually lifelong and the connections can you give you an advantage over your competition when you enter the job market.” My brother has told me this as well. My brother is always telling stories about his friends at his frat house. When I visit him, I talk to a lot of his friends and they are all very nice to me and funny. Also, throughout my research, I have learned that joining a fraternity will help me in the future because I can put it on my resume and it shows leadership skills. One of the articles I read stated that “when applying for a job, you can put your fraternity on your resume which will help you get the job. Most businesses believe that fraternities produce responsible members of society.” If I join a fraternity, then it could help me in the future. Another common positive I saw throughout was philanthropy. One of the authors stated that “most chapters find involvement in some sort of community service project or philanthropic endeavor, and many chapters have leadership positions dedicated to this aspect of Greek life.” Not only are greek organizations having fun but also giving back to the community. In conclusion, I have listed many positives of joining a fraternity. I did not list any negatives because after researching, I have discovered that the positives outweigh the negatives and that I am going to join a fraternity.
