Women Around The World

ECONOMIC PRINCIPLE:  Institutions are the “rules of the game” that influence choices.

THESIS (CONNECT ECONOMIC PRINCIPLE WITH YOUR ANSWER TO YOUR RESEARCH QUESTION):
The customs of a culture can determine the role of a gender, women in America and Asia share similar rights and roles in their society as well as slight differences.
SYNTHESIS PARAGRAPH:
Asia is slowly behind America with the rights of women, this is because America is advancing and becoming an example of gender equality therefore many countries are following behind. In the work world American women are still struggling behind men, there are far less female CEOs of a company compared to men and their pay is less also. Nevertheless, the small business industry for women is going up. As opposed to women in Asia, they are still working on gaining equality. It is mostly because the Asian culture is more patriarchal, meaning men are more dominant and women are supposed to listen to what their husbands tell them. Therefore this leads to a smaller role in society and a larger role at home. In Asia, women are supposed to stay home and take care of the house and the children while the husband goes out to work. Therefore a women is probably not going to go to college and get fully educated because she is supposed to stay at home. This shows that cultural values influence people’s choices.  There are many laws in America to help give women equality in businesses, education, and in general. These kinds of laws differ from the laws in Asia, where women are still struggling to gain equality but they are making progress. Although the laws are different, the social pressures women face in America and Asia are in the same category: reproduction. In Japan, women are pressured to have more children and if they do not want to or are not able to the society pushes painful and stressful pressures on them. Women around the world are gaining their equality, however, some countries are moving more quickly than others.
