In order to provide women with affordable and quality healthcare, a politician must understand the problems of defunding a service that provides as vast of health care as Planned Parenthood does. Most conservatives are not primarily interested in the abortion aspect, yet an affordable service such as PP can actually boost our economy and provide those women with better home and fiscal situation than before.. According to an article by the Atlantic, a widely utilized newspaper, entitled “The Economic Case for Funding Planned Parenthood”, “63 percent of women reported birth control had allowed them to take better care of themselves or their families, and 56 percent said it allowed them to take care of themselves financially.” In this case, women receiving proper health care, especially young or low-income women, can potentially better themselves financially and enhance their home lives simply due to PP’s services.
Also in the article are plenty of conservative proposals to what can be done for these women, the same ones that just claimed PP’s birth control services helped them become generally happier people. Ted Cruz commented “absolutely we shouldn't be sending $500 million of taxpayer money to funding an ongoing criminal enterprise.” Criminal compromise may be a language a little loaded, and I can probably take a safe guess as to the fact that Ted Cruz was one of the believers of the great sale of fetal tissue hoax. “Chris Christie, Scott Walker, and Jeb Bush all bragged about defunding Planned Parenthood in their states,” the author claims, as if defunding the program shows a bit more stamina over their counterparts. Carly Fiorina compared Planned Parenthood’s threat to families to an Iranian threat. Kasich argued that governors should be able to strip the organization of funding, and Trump didn’t have much to say about And even Donald Trump commented that he is against abortion entirely, and without PP, he will still “take care of women,” whatever that means.
With less money being spent on the more expensive health care, women have time to become educated and obtain better jobs, in which they will make more money to circulate into the economy. More spending means more jobs, and the circle widens and boosts the economy. Even with a large government funding, this money can be implemented back into the system with the millions of American women who depend on the services (not just abortion!) that PP provides.
FUTURE RESEARCH: Are there personal stories of women and how they have been affected by Planned Parenthood?
