What Is Organic?

What qualifies something to be label organic and what are the regulations? Organic Faq wrote this article to inform people about regulations and what qualifies food to be organic. Organic Faq is apart of the website, Organic.org, which provides news/ information/ and education on what organic really is.

So what actually is organic? Organic is defined as products that are “grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation.”. When you look at a label on beauty products or food you will see different labels that have printed on them either; 100% Organic, Organic, or Made with Organic ingredients. What this means is that there are different regulations for what you can print on a label. 100% Organic means that the product is only made using 100% organic product. The label Organic, means that 95% of the product is made using organic materials and the other 5% is not made using organic materials. Also, Made with Organic Ingredients, means that the product is made with a minimum of 70 % organic ingredients. Looking at labels on beauty products is important because even if it just says Made with Organic Ingredients, means that the product isn't 100% organic. Using 100% organic beauty products is a much better option because there is no usage of chemicals or other processed ingredients being added to the product.

All companies/ farms that produce the organic ingredients for beauty products and food have strict regulations. Companies are required to get inspected annually in addition there are random checks to assure standards are being met.”. This means that companies that produce organic products have strict rules for making sure that they are not using pesticides or other chemicals to produce “organic” items. The upside to purchasing organic beauty products is that you know that there are strict rules to make sure that the product you see is what you are actually getting. Farmers that make the food/ ingredients for beauty products are required to meet  a Government-approved certifier inspects the farm”. Organic beauty products with 100% organic products means, that the product you get is what you want. You won't receive a product that says 100% Organic when it really isn't because the government is required to inspect all the products and make sure that what has been put on the label is the truth.
