  • The link between CTE and football didn't pick up steam until 2005 when forensic pathologist Bennet Omalu published research following his diagnosis that retired NFL star "Iron Mike" Webster had CTE.”
  • “I think each individual player makes his own individual decision about how long they play the game, who they play for, under what conditions they play,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said this during an interview before super bowl 50.
  • CTE manifests itself in different ways depending on the person, and can be present for decades before symptoms are visible.
  • Players develop brain disease over a period of time from rough contact sports like football. Players who play on the line and positions where, players get hit and tackled are more likely to develop concussions.

  • Who/what is the source & why is it reliable

Football is a beloved American sport, with a heavy cash flow that leads back to the American Past time. The Super Bowl which is the most watched sporting event ever watches brings in fans from all of the country. Tickets this year went for as much as $5 million and spectators were willing to pay $4,600 for game day tickets at secondary merchants.
As the NFL’s offers have grown, the league has increasingly been able to deflect some of the concerns over the impact the game has had on the health of players by expanding its influence on research. If the NFL continued to raise awareness and fund the program to remove players with traumatic brain injuries, the league might lose fans. This is because if a good player were to lose one of their top players, fans might lose interest.
However his statement is extremely false because it's up to the teams on who plays for them and how long they play, based on the contract that is offered to them. In order for a contract to be agreed upon the agent has to sign it agreeing that he will play for x amount of years. Also the contract agrees the safety of the player and that he will be guaranteed medical care provided for any injuries. This proves that the NFL is responsible to ensure to health and safety of their players and to support.

  1. Your topic is really interesting. In the first paragraph you were talking about the NFL losing fans and fans losing interest. Then you jumped into how the players wont retire earl because they are under contract. Try to weave those ideas together to make it a little clearer.
