Should the BPL implement a playoff?

TITLE ADDRESSING MAIN IDEA OF SOURCE: What system does the BPL have?

  • "Like many domestic soccer leagues the world over—but not the MLS—the question of who wins the Premier League is decided in a fairly straightforward fashion. A total of 20 teams each play every other team twice, over the course of a season that runs from August through May. A team is given three points for winning a match, and one point each for a tie (referred to in England as a “draw”). "
  • "Winning the Premier League is, of course, the ultimate prize for all 20 teams involved, but almost as important is the race to finish somewhere in the top four positions. The most lucrative reward for success in the EPL is the chance to compete in the UEFA Champions League"
  • "Unlike in most American sports, being in the Premier League is a privilege, not a right. Once a team is there, they don’t automatically stay there—they have to play for their position. Each year, the bottom three sides in the league are relegated to the top division of the Football League, to be replaced by three teams from it"

Bringing in a playoff to the BPL is a big change. The BPL is one of the most popular league in the world with some of the fiercest competition, but it could possibly benefit from some change. Before we get into all of the discussion about this controversial topic, readers have to understand how the systems work at the moment. The English Football League is a complicated system, but here are the rules and things you need to know.

England has a football system called the EPL. This consists of multiple leagues with 24 teams in each league. This is true for every league but the top league, the Premier League, which has 20 teams. In the Premier League, each team plays every other team twice. This makes up the 40 game season that we have today.

The scoring works as follows. For each win a team is awarded three points, for each tie both teams are awarded one point each, and for a loss the team is awarded no points. At the end of the 40 games whoever has the most points wins the title.

But the award is not only for first place, but the higher a team finishes in the league, the more money that the team gets to spend on players so they can acquire better talent. This is massively different from the American style. In American leagues like the NBA and NFL, the bad teams get rewarded for high picks in the draft the following year. The English league thinks the opposite way. They give teams money and incentive for winning by rewarding them for a successful year. Teams also get rewarded by being invited to play in he champions league, which is one of the most prestigious tournaments.

ts that it In my next blog post I will talk about how and what changes shoulds be implimented and the effects that it will have
