Sea mammals are quite literally one of the most complex creatures to flow through the waters of this Earth. Especially among the likes of dolphins or orca/killer whales. These mammals are constantly being torn apart from being captivated in confined tanks that restrict the freedom these mammals deserve. Dolphins are one of some animals who use sonar to sing, communicate, rage, and pretty much show any type of emotion. The same is said for orcas, these large water creatures are not made to make a family of four happy for about 3 hours and then being told to swim in a cage not even twice their size.
In a CNN article by Ben Rooney, he tells the story of Jane Goodall and her plan on shutting down the national water park known as Sea World. Sea World has been accused countless times of exploiting their powers to torture poor mammals. Since the release of the ‘Blackfish’ documentary, Sea World has been hit by 110 PETA accusations of animal misconduct. Up till now they have refused any allegations.
CNN and the Huffington Post covered Jane Goodall’s very specific and direct arguments against the captivity of such beautiful creatures. These mammals are unlike any other and have the grey matter to know proper treatment, etiquettes and emotions. Just because we are unable to understand the animal’s frustration, does not mean that it is acceptable for a bunch of “trainers” to display a bunch of unhappy, captive prisoners to paid customers.
I think what you are writing about is a very serious and sensitive topic. I really like that you are writing about this because I care a lot about animals and I think they should be treated right. I think you could go in further on how bad they are really treating them and maybe compare it with a human and what it would be like if they were to experience something like that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your argument about how animals, like orcas, are not made to put on a show to make a family happy. It reminds me of the movie, The Cove about the killing of dolphins and how they are sold to become show animals. Maybe you should explore different areas of animal entertainment, such as the circus. You did well with citing your source, however, maybe add a link to the article. You did well with the analysis of your ideas and the articles that you used.
